So words cannot truly express just how angry I am at Carr Chevrolet right this minute.
So I'm sure those that read this blog regularly can recall my mentioning both left turn signals going out on our new-ish truck a few months back, within weeks of buying the truck.
So about a month ago, I noticed one of our brake lights had gone out too. Okay, no worries, we still have two.
About two weeks ago, I noticed our other brake light had gone out. Okay, no worries, we still have the one over the bed. Regardless though, we still need to get it fixed.
So, Friday, Niceguy takes the truck in to Oil Can Henry's to get an oil change. No big deal, we'll get the oil changed, replace the bulbs, and all will be right with the world.
Apparently not. (*By the way, we absolutely LOVE Oil Can Henry's! They are wonderful! More detail when I'm not raging.*)
They pulled out one of the old bulbs and replaced it. Then, upon further inspection, discover the original bulb is fine. Really? Yep, fine. So they put them back in and they are working great. *ponder*
I wonder whatever could be wrong. Weird, but they're working now, so we're good.
Sunday morning, Niceguy gets up to go to work, leaves, and comes back 2 minutes later. "The truck is dead."
What?
"The truck is dead."
Sure enough. Attempting to start the truck sounds like someone trying to squeeze that last bit of energy out of the hamster wheel. Okay, dead battery, no worries. We probably left a light on. So we call a friend over to jump the truck, since we couldn't find our jumper cables in the Mustang.
We jump the truck, and Niceguy takes it for a spin around the block, comes back, turns it off and back on again. Okay, we're good.
We invite our friend in for a short visit(30-45 minutes), and when he leaves, we decide to check the truck again.
What do ya know, she's dead again. Yes, again....
So we jump her again, and immediately head to the dealership. Lovely, they're closed. It is Sunday after all.
So we leave a message requesting a call, and head up to AutoZone. Short stops seem to be okay at this point.
They test the battery, which appears to be fine, and find nothing wrong with any other system. Plus the check engine light isn't on, so we're hopeful. This all took about 20 minutes.
At this point, I'm thinking short. Probably some relation to the brake light issue. Probably draining the battery at a phenomenal pace.
We purchase a jump kit, with $46.33 of the last $100 I have, and head home to charge it. Hey, guess what? The instructions say to charge it for 36 hours, drain it, and then charge it again. *sigh* Phone calls ensue....
Niceguy's Mom is our hero, and loaned us her car for Monday, so we could get to work and earn money to pay for these lovely repairs coming down the pipeline.
Therefore, camping trip this weekend, that's been planned for two months, cancelled. We'll both be going to work instead, to cover the lost wages and repairs we can't afford right now. Niceguy is actually planning a 7-day stretch, since he can work overtime and I can't. My company doesn't allow overtime. The last 5 weeks, he's worked 6-day weeks. He was really looking forward to this 4-day weekend off in the mountains relaxing. I don't care if I spend the next 6 months picking up change in the grocery store parking lot, I am going to save up enough money for us to take a few days to go camping, and still afford to miss work. He deserves it.
Monday morning, no call. We're already late for work, so we jump the truck and head for the dealership. I get the call right as I'm pulling in to a parking spot. We turn over the keys, explain the issue in detail, including the stuff about the brake lights, and head off to work. Getting to work an hour and 15 minutes late. Wonderful....
At about 1:30, we get the call from the dealership, and I'm told "The brake light issue was related to the brake light switch which was involved in a recall, and has been replaced for free."
Yay!
"The battery issue was the connection between the cable and the connection that goes to the battery. When you move it slightly, the truck won't start. Move it again, and it starts fine."
Seriously?
"So we replaced the cable and the connection, and she starts up fine. They tested her several times, and she started right up each time. It's going to be $53.95."
Excellent! See you at 6.
*ponder* Did they bother waiting about 30 minutes in between attempts? I guess we'll find out.
In the mean time, I frantically find someone to borrow a dollar from, because I only had $53.67 in my account, and I am not going to be charged an overdraft fee for 28 cents.
Dollar found, off we go. Errands quickly run, dollar deposited in the bank, and off to the dealership. We get there. I pay the $53.95, and the lot attendant walks away to get the truck.
I should add, that around this time, a monthly automatic debit came out of my other account.... Overdraft.... I hate this cycle, and I will sell off everything I own to keep from getting in to it again.
Anyways....
3-4 minutes later, he's walking back, looking a little scared. She won't start. Oh really?
The head of the shop heads over to try himself, Niceguy in tow, while I sit back over by Niceguy's Mom's car trying not to blow a fuse....
"I don't understand, we tested everything. The battery was good! Just a second...." and he runs back to his counter.
"We're going to swap the battery out tomorrow and see what else we can find...." Oh fabulous. Another day, and how much will it cost this time?
Had they listened in the first place, I'd bet we'd have picked our truck up tonight, and it all would have been covered by the warranty. Had they tested it after 30 minutes, like we told them, I bet she really would have been thoroughly looked over. Instead, they take the simplest answer, and just run with it. Not bothering to test it out afterwards, because hey, she started right up 10 times right after we jumped it. *sigh*
No words, can adequately describe how absolutely fuming mad I am at the ignorance and incompetence of these guys. I really hope they can redeem themselves. I really really do.
